Windows XP lives on until June 30, 2008

Microsoft announced today that it will continue shipping Windows XP until June 30, 2008 - that's five more months than the software giant initially announced. Microsoft also said that the cheap Windows XP Starter Edition will be available until June 30, 2010.

Microsoft Windows Product Management Corporate Vice President Mike Nash: While we’ve been pleased with the positive response we’ve seen and heard from customers using Windows Vista, there are some customers who need a little more time to make the switch to Windows Vista. As it turns out, our official policy as of 2002 is that versions of Windows are available through our retail and direct OEM partners for four years after they ship. Obviously this policy didn’t work with Windows XP given Windows Vista’s delivery date. As a practical matter, most of our previous operating system releases were available for about two years after the new version shipped, so maybe we were a little ambitious to think that we would need to make Windows XP available for only a year after the release of Windows Vista.

So we’re responding to feedback we have gotten from our OEM partners that some customers will benefit by extending availability of Windows XP to June 30, 2008 instead of the planned date of Jan. 30, 2008. Also, since some of the systems that ship in emerging markets don’t meet the requirements for Windows Vista, we will be extending availability of Windows XP Starter Edition to June 30, 2010. This will allow our OEM partners who sell PCs in emerging markets more opportunity to offer genuine Windows licenses. Windows XP Starter Edition is tailored to local markets, in local languages, and is compatible with a wide range of Windows-based applications and devices.

Demonoid Shut Down by the CRIA?

Demonoid.com, one of the most popular BitTorrent trackers has allegedly been taken offline by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA). Both the tracker and the website have been unresponsive for nearly 24 hours now.

As of now it is still unsure what exactly happened, but the popular Dutch news site nu.nl reports that the CRIA is responsible for the downtime.

TorrentFreak contacted some of the Demonoid administrators, but they are not sure what happened either. It is certainly possible that Demonoid’s Canadian ISP pulled the plug after being pressured by the CRIA. The ISP said before that they would take it down if they would receive complaints.

Right now, the Demonoid server is still pinging, but the ISP could have firewalled the everything after they received some serious legal threats. Deimos, the founder and the head admin of the site is unreachable and has not responded yet.

This is not the first time Demonoid suffers major downtime due to pressure from the anti-piracy lobby. Demonoid had to move its servers from The Netherlands to Canada in June after The Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN filed a subpoena against Demonoid’s ISP. BREIN had asked the ISP to take Demonoid offline and hand over the administrator’s personal details, but Demonoid relocated their servers before any harm was done.

Unfortunately, it now seems that Canada is not the “safe haven” as they expected it to be. It is likely that Demonoid has to relocate again, for the second time in three months.

Demonoid tracks over a million .torrent files and is the second largest BitTorrent tracker after The Pirate Bay. The shutdown of the site and tracker is a huge blow for the BitTorrent community that lost 2 of the most popular BitTorrent trackers (TorrentBox was taken offline for US users a few hours ago) within 24 hours.

NVIDIA Launches Intel IGP

MCP73 finally hits the market for Intel chipsets

NVIDIA is set to launch its long-awaited MCP73 integrated graphics solution for Intel processors – the GeForce 7 series and nForce 600i series. The new GeForce 7 series IGP solutions for Intel processors arrive in three variants – GeForce 7150 and 7100 with the nForce 630i and the GeForce 7050 with nForce 630i or nForce 610i.

The GeForce 7 series IGP features Vista aero glass compatible graphics with DirectX 9 and Shader Model 3.0 support. NVIDIA equips the GeForce 7150 and 7100 IGP with a native HDMI interface with HDCP compatibility for Blu-ray and HD DVD high-definition video playback. The GeForce 7050 and higher support a single-link DVI output with HDCP compatible. The cost-effective GeForce 7050 lacks DVI, HDMI and HDCP.

NVIDIA’s flagship GeForce 7150 features a clock speed of over 600 MHz while the lesser GeForce 7100 has a 600 MHz clock speed. The lower GeForce 7050 has a 500 MHz clock speed.

Memory support differs on the GeForce 7150/7100 and 7050. The GeForce 7150 and 7100 feature support for DDR2-800 while the GeForce 7050 is limited to DDR2-667.

All IGPs paired with the nForce 630i feature support for 1333 MHz front-side bus processors. The GeForce 7050 with nForce 610i is limited to 1066 MHz front-side bus processors.

Other notable features of the GeForce 7 series iGP and nForce 600i series include support for one PCIe x16, two PCIe x1, four SATA 3.0Gbps, two PATA and RAID. NVIDIA differentiates the nForce 630i and 610i with a few networking, USB and storage features. The nForce 630i supports Gigabit Ethernet, ten USB ports and RAID 0, 1, 0 + 1 and 5. The nForce 610i is limited to 10/100 Ethernet, eight USB ports and RAID 0 and 1.

NVIDIA also offers a graphic-less nForce 630i with the same features as the IGP variants, including DDR2-800 and 1333 MHz front-side bus support.

Expect NVIDIA GeForce 7 series IGP motherboards for Intel processors to show up in the coming weeks with varying prices. NVIDIA expects the GeForce 7100 with nForce 630i to take on Intel’s G33 Express with a sub-$60 build cost.

World's Smallest Micro-Camcorder

We're not exactly sure what kind of evidence you'll be gathering with this so-called "world's smallest" micro camcorder. But whatever that is, you'd better get 'er done in two hours, because that's how long its battery lasts. You can see how tiny this thing is—small enough to literally pull out of your ass—but despite its Lilliputian size it can hold 33 hours of video on a 1GB SD memory card. One more animated pic after the jumpage.

The tiny camcorder uses the 3GP format, usually associated with cellphone video. The seller's not saying what the resolution is, but we'd be surprised if it were any bigger than 320x240. We do know it's going to give you the somewhat herky-jerky 15 frames per second frame rate.

Why not just surreptitiously shoot some video with your cellphone? Oh yeah, that phone would be a bit bigger than a pack of gum. One thing's for sure, if your cellphone costs $295 like this little trinket does, at least the phone would give you a few more features than just shooting crappy-looking video.

Use Your iPod Touch As Second-Rate $400 USB Stick

You know that "Enable disk use" checkbox? The one that appears in iTunes for most modern iPods? That checkbox isn't there for the iPod touch. The touch provides no built-in disk access utilities but if you have an Intel Mac, and aren't afraid of the command line, you can use these Media Folder utilities to copy files to and from your touch.

The utilities, which are based around a modified version of iPhuc, work with the iPhone as well as the touch and copy files to and from the Media/Documents folder.

Update: PPC Mac users download this copy of iPhuc, rename it to util and stick it into the media utilities folder. It doesn't run as cleanly as the version I converted--lots more extraneous text--but it works on PPC.

USB 3.0 to Bring 10x Speed Increase in 2008

Intel discusses its plans for USB 3.0 technology

During Patrick Gelsinger's keynote at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) today, Intel made a small announcement regarding a group of companies who are now working together to create a "superspeed personal USB interconnect” with 10 times the speed of the current generation technology of USB 2.0. The USB 3.0 Promoter Group -- which consists of Intel, Hewlett-Packard, NEC Corporation, NXP Semiconductors, Microsoft and Texas Instruments -- looks to make several other major changes.

The current USB 2.0 version has a top data-transfer rate of 480 megabits per second, so a tenfold increase would be 4.8 gigabits per second. Many devices don't need that much capacity, but some can use more, including hard drives, flash card readers and optical drives such as DVD, Blu-ray and HD DVD. The fastest flash card readers today use IEEE 1394 "FireWire" connections that top out at 800 megabits per second.

In addition, USB 3.0 will offer greater energy efficiency, Gelsinger said. It will be backward compatible, so current USB 2.0 devices will be able to plug into USB 3.0 ports.

LG have announced the LG Veiwty also known as the LG KU990. The LG Veiwty is a touch screen mobile phone with a screen similar to the currently available LG Prada and the soon to be released iPhone. The main selling point of the LG Veiwty is its 5.1 mega pixel camera.

Samsung recently released the G600 with a 5 mega pixel camera, the G600 also comes equipt with its own photo editor which allows you to alter your pictures on your mobile phone. Now LG have fought back with the Veiwty which comes with a 5.1 megapixel camera with flash, electronic image stabilisation, single click uploading to YouTube and Photo editing.

Not only does the LG Viewty have a better camera spec than the Samsung G600’s, but it also boasts a camera lens made by Schneider Kreuznach who are the people who make lenses for Kodak!

Another impressive but a little unnecessary feature is the Veiwtys video recorder. Videos are captured at up to 120 frames per second. This is twice as fast as the frame rate of a HDTV!

Nokia's N94i To Run Windows Mobile OS ,Not Symbian? True Or Fake !!

Good, then this is an unannounced Nokia N94i running the Windows Mobile (not Symbian) operating system. We have no way of knowing for sure, but that looks like an engineering prototype Chinese knockoff of something which has gone up for auction somewhere on this great blue planet. According to the listed specs, we're looking at a touchscreen (with stylus) multimedia device synonymous with the N-Series packing a 2 megapixel camera, speakerphone, Bluetooth 2.0 and MicroSD expansion. It's also listed as a dual-sim device with quad-band GSM support. Of course, Microsoft has been slowly making in-roads into Nokia handsets for several months with Nokia's purchase of Intellisync and the recent announcement to integrate Windows Live services into some Nokia handsets. Still, WinMo on Nokia... are we dreaming, or is that "WinXP.jpg" an indicator of something more foolish?

AMD,NVIDIA Releases New Drivers

AMD and NVIDIA this week released new graphics drivers for its graphics cards. AMD’s latest ATI Catalyst Software Suite 7.9 introduces the usual new features, performance improvements and resolved issues. New to the ATI Catalyst 7.9 drivers is a color temperature control panel. The color temperature control lets users adjust chromatic levels on ATI Radeon X1000 and HD 2000 series graphics cards.

AMD also introduces the Avivo Video Converter application to Windows Vista 64-bit users. The Avivo Video Converter application allows users to transcode various video formats such as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, WMV, H.264/AVC and others.

The latest driver set improves performance in various games such as Far Cry, Call of Duty 2, Half-Life 2, Serious Sam 2 and Quake 4. Performance enhancements are seen mostly on AMD’s ATI Radeon HD 2000 series graphics cards, though X1600/1650 Pro and X1300/X1550 products receive anti-aliasing improvements in Quake 4.

NVIDIA users are also treated to a new beta driver release. The latest beta, version 163.67, improves compatibility with Bioshock and Crysis under Windows Vista and XP.

AMD users can grab the latest ATI Catalyst 7.9 from the website for Windows XP, XP-64, Vista and Vista-64. NVIDIA users can grab the beta ForceWare drivers for Windows XP, XP-64, Vista and Vista-64.

Sony's PRS-505 ebook reader leaks out

Given the many opportunities Sony's had to demo new gear in the past month, you'd think we'd have seen this earlier, but it looks like the company's latest ebook reader, the PRS-505, will be making its grand debut on the website of Chicago's own Abt Electronics. The update to the original Sony Reader will come in either silver or blue, feature a slightly redesigned layout, twice the internal memory, and may potentially rock what seems like an updated display. No word on any other changes, but it looks like the price is the same at $299.

Seagate's 1TB HDD With Native Encryption

Seagate announces a 3.5-inch 1TB hard drive with full disc AES encryption and a 250GB notebook hard drive.


Seagate this week announced two new hard drives for desktops and notebook computers. The new desktop hard drive is a 1TB 3.5-inch internal drive with integrated government-grade encryption technology to keep data safe from unauthorized users. The drive is called the Barracuda FDE for full disk encryption and is the world’s first 3.5-inch desktop hard drive with native encryption and uses the same technology as the Momentus FDE notebook hard drives.

Seagate employs AES, which is the strongest level of commercially available encryption protocols. The Barracuda FDE encrypts the entire drive’s contents for full protection when the system is off. Booting a computer with a Baraccuda FDE drive requires the user to enter a pre-boot password. The Barracuda FDE desktop drive is available in capacities up to 1TB and has a 7200-rpm spindle speed.

To reach this high level of storage, Seagate employs perpendicular magnetic recording technology it pioneered on the 750GB Barracuda hard drive last year. The Momentus 5400.4 also has improved durability with an operating shock tolerance of 325 Gs and a non-operating shock tolerance of 900 Gs.

The Momentus 5400.4 is scheduled to ship to system builders in the fourth quarter of 2007 and the Barracuda FDE is on track for shipment in 2008. Seagate has no comment on pricing of either drive at this time.

Apple Offers $100 In-Store Credit To Initial iPhone Customers

Apple Inc. will offer a $100 in-store credit to people who bought the iPhone from either Apple or AT&T ,before the company slashed the price by $200, the company’s chief executive, Steven P. Jobs, said in a statement today.

Yesterday's announcement of the $200 price reduction for the 8GB iPhone was a shock to the system. No one in the industry was expecting it and customers that had already purchased the machine at the $599 price point were fuming mad.

In an open letter to all iPhone customers, Steve Jobs expressed his "observations and conclusions."

"First, I am sure that we are making the correct decision to lower the price of the 8GB iPhone from $599 to $399, and that now is the right time to do it," said Jobs.“Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store," Jobs continued.

Intel Launches Quad-Core "Tigerton"

Intel took its quad-core Core 2 architecture to the high-end multi-CPU server sector with the launch of six new Tigerton Xeon 7300 series processors. The new quad-core Xeon 7300 series features scalability up to 32 processors for a total of 128 CPU cores.

Intel offers the quad-core Xeon 7300 series in three different thermal envelopes and cache sizes. The company offers the processor in 8MB, 6MB and 4MB cache sizes.

Intel reserves its 130-Watt thermal envelope for the speed topping X7350 with its 2.93 GHz clock speed while regular E7340, E7330, E7320 and E7310 models have 80-Watt TDPs. The company only has one low-power 50-Watt variant for launch – the L7345 with its 1.86 GHz clock speed.

All new quad-core Xeon 7300 models operate on a 1066 MHz front-side bus featuring a new point-to-point bus architecture, allowing each processor to have its own connection directly to the chipset.

Prices For AMD Barcelona

AMD sent out pricing information for its upcoming quad-core Opteron 2300 and 8300 series processors to its partners and distributors. The company plans to launch nine new quad-core processors later this month with clock speeds ranging from 1.7 GHz to 2.0 GHz.

AMD’s two-way capable quad-core Opteron 2300 series launch with five new models – 2350, 2347, 2347 HE, 2346 HE and 2344 HE. Pricing for the two-way capable models start at around $206 and go up as high as $372. Quad-core Opteron 2300 HE models command an approximate $60 premium over standard models, clock for clock.

On the multi-way side of things, AMD has four quad-core Opteron 8300 models ready for launch – the 8350, 8347, 8347 HE and 8346 HE. The multi-way models have a $688 cost-of-entry and top out at around $1,000. Unlike the Opteron 2300 series, the 8300 series HE models command an approximate $110 price premium.

AMD To Launch Barcelona In Seven Places

AMD will launch its next-generation Opteron processor next week in a series of events co-located around the globe.

There is no doubt AMD will want to keep the confidence of financial analysts, press and general customers with some demonstrations of high-clocked Barcelona/Agena FX systems - probably spotting B2 revisions, not B1 or B0 as it is rumoured on some sites.

The launch will take place in San Francisco and Barcelona for the western world, while AMD APAC will coordinate launch events in Beijing, Bangalore, Seoul, Taipei and Tokyo - raising the number of events to seven.

Sparks will be flying in October and November when AMD will go head to head against the 45nm Yorkfield processors, but by that time the B3 speedbin should be out the door, showing off the workstation Opterons, Phenom FX and X4 processors to their full potential.

Days are over for DDR2 memory to rule over the market.Now it comes the DDR3 to rule the market with faster speed and better capabilities in terms of overclocking the machine.

With the double quotation.

Step #4 :Click Next.Name anything for example Google Talk Multiple, etc.

Step #5 :Click Ok and now you can login in multiple google accounts at the same instant.

Give Firefox A Aero Look.

Give Mozilla Firefox a fresh look with Windows Vista Aero interface.

Its really looks amazing and cool.So I would say just try out this.
Just go to the Mozilla Firefox official Website and click on the Add Ons and then on themes.

There you will find many wonderful themes which will change the look and feel of the firefox.For this part only download the Vista Aero theme.

Note:People using other than Firefox i.e Opera or IE, just download and save it anywhere you like.It will be saved as .JAR file.To install the theme follow this process:

STEP#1:Open Firefox--->Tools--->Add-ons---->Themes

STEP#2:Open the folder where you have downloaded the Theme(.jar file).Now just drag and drop it in the Theme pane of the firefox above.

STEP#3:It will ask you to install and then restart the Firefox to get a fresh look.

It is applicable to other themes also.So just experiment with the freshness.
