Entry-Level ATI Radeon HD 3400/HD 3600 Series Launched

AMD released two new graphics cards today for the entry-level and mainstream market: the Radeon HD 3400 and Radeon HD 3600 series. The new Radeon HD 3400 cards will retail from $49-$65 and the Radeon HD 3600 series will be available from $79-99.The most notable feature of these cards is that they are amongst the first to feature DisplayPort support.

Blu-ray or HD DVD disc playback can be enjoyed in full HD glory (1080p)iv thanks to AMD’s proprietary unified video decoder (UVD) technology found on the ATI Radeon HD 3400 and ATI Radeon HD 3600 series, ensuring movies play back smoothly and with incredible detail. Immersive home theater environments can be created using the built-in support for six channel (5.1) Dolby Digital surround audio transmission through HDMI. In addition, the ATI Radeon™ HD 3450 will support fully silent (passive) cooling, delivering the ideal solution for home theater PCs.

Some Pics of ATI Radeon HD 3650 And HD 3690

As January is slowly crawling towards its end AMD's planned release of more HD 3000 series cards is closing in and the pictures are starting to pop up everywhere.

The Radeon HD 3650 is a lower-mid-range card powered by the 55nm-built RV635 chip which is set to be the replacement of the HD 2600 XT. Boasting 120 Stream Processors, the 3650 will retail at just under $100 and will have 256MB of GDDR3 memory.



There's also some screenshots of Radeon HD 3690 card from Triplex.Featuring a dual-slot cooler, the card has 256MB of GDDR3 memory but is equipped with a (crippled) RV670 chip which has 320 Stream Processors but only a 128-bit memory interface. This card should cost a little over $100 so it looks like a mid-range winner but, given it hasn't bee hear of much until now, it may be a limited edition offer.

ATI Radeon HD 3450 Reviewed

Expreview has the exclusive benchmarks of ATI Radeon HD 3450 128MB.This card will replace the Radeon HD 2400 and is well suited for HTPC systems.

AMD did a very good job in entry/HTPC VGA card segment. Comparing to NVIDIA-ruled mid to High-end market, AMD sells quite well in entry/HTPC market. That’s because the company catch the trend, focus on product’s HD video playback ability. The RV610, HD 2400 becomes many HTPC fans’ first choice. After RV670’s debuting, AMD turn their process tech to 55nm, and preparing to roll out more HD 3000 series cards based on RV6XX GPU and 55nm process.

In 3DMark test Radeon HD 3450 have about 26.73% boost compare to HD 2400 Pro with default frequency.That’s because the higher clock. When we OC Hd 2400 Pro to the same frequency, the performance boost drop to 6.3%. This means the 55nm shrink only brings little boost to the performance.This card is certainly not for exclusive gaming,even though it has 33.3% faster clock than HD 2400 Pro, we have to turn all setting off, and lower the resolution to play today’s new game.

PowerColor Unveils Radeon HD 3850 AGP Version

PowerColor has unveiled the new Radeon HD 3850 graphics card with an AGP interface.

The new AGP card, which you can view below, features a two-slot cooling system, stock clocks (668 and 1660 MHz for the core and memory) and 512 MB of GDDR3 memory. The AGP-ed Radeon HD 3850 has already popped up in store and can be found at just under 200 euros.

Radeon's New Series HD3450 and HD 3470

According to the Hybrid CrossFire article over at Hothardware, the upcoming Radeon HD 34x0 series will have two different models at launch, the HD 3450 and the HD 3470, pretty much as expected.

These cards will replace the current Raden HD 2400 Pro and XT cards and will be AMD's new entry level graphics cards. The performance is unlikely going to be anything to write home about, but these cards will be the first products to feature DisplayPort at an affordable price.

The cheapest Radeon HD 3450 cards with DisplayPort are expected to retail from about US$50 which seems quite affordable if you just want to use them to power a high-resolution display and couldn't care less about 3D performance.

You'll have to wait until Q1 next year to buy one of these cards, but it looks like AMD could have a winner here, especially as Dell is shifting over all its displays to DisplayPort next year and if AMD has these card ready early enough, we'd expect Dell to pick up a few of these.

ATI Radeon HD 3800 For Mobile

FUDZilla heard mobile versions of ATI's new Radeon HD 3850 and 3870 are expected soon:

Just as Nvidia is planning a mobile G92 version of the Geforce 8800 GT, branded as the 8800M GTX, ATI will introduce its RV670 mobile chip. ATI has a big advantage, as it dissipates less than 80W, at least for the desktop part, but with some optimization and a more modest clock, we might be getting a great mobile GPU at a great price/performance ratio.

Traditionally AMD has to wait for OEMs to change their production cycle and as soon as this happens (in other words, when one of the big OEMs or ODMs (Originl Design Manufacturers)) releases a new machine powered with mobile RV670, AMD will introduce this part.

AMD Radeon HD 3850 and 3870 Released

Today AMD finally unveiled its new 55nm Radeon HD 3800 series. There are two different variants: the Radeon HD 3850 with 256MB GDDR3 memory and the Radeon HD 3870 with 512MB GDDR4 memory. These cards are priced at $179 and $219, respectively.

AMD also officially introduced ATI CrossFireX, a multi-GPU technology with support for two, three and four graphics cards. At launch, the ATI Radeon HD 3800 series will support dual-GPU CrossFire with tri and quad-GPU support scheduled for January 2008.

In January/February 2008 we can expect the Radeon HD 3870 X2 for about $499 and the firm is also working on a Radeon HD 3830 but few details are known about that card.

AMD To Further Reduce 3800 Series Pricing

According to a story on Digitimes, AMD is going to further reduce the pricing of the upcoming Radeon HD 3850 and 3870 cards and apparently we're looking at pricing between US$179-239, which translates to €122.50-163.50, but the cards won't be this cheap in Europe though as we know, since the exchange rate is never applied in this way.

Nonetheless, we're looking at some very cheap cards here and it seems like AMD is almost underselling itself and we're curious where the 2900 GT and 2900 Pro belongs in this lineup, as both cards will end up being more expensive than the 38x0 cards an most like not be competitive in terms of performance.

Time will tell how much these cards will actually cost, but it looks like we're seeing another price war, this time between AMD and Nvidia, rather than between AMD and Intel.

ATI Radeon HD3850 Listed For 156.10EUR

TC Magazine found prices of the upcoming AMD/ATI Radeon HD3850 and HD3870 cards at some of the online stores.

According to one website Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 256MB can be preordered for 156.10EUR whereas the 512MB version costs 171.20EUR.




As for the higher-end Radeon HD 3870, it is now at e-shop24.com for € 219,26. The competitive prices are now confirmed, all we need now are the perfomance numbers.

Leaked Radeon HD 3800 Series Slides And Performance Benchmarks

MadBoxPC got their hands on some slides from AMD about the upcoming Radeon HD 3850 and 3870 graphics cards.



Some Radeon HD 3850 and 3870 benchmark results were unveiled today at VR Zone. These graphs allegedly come from AMD but the results don't really look that good unless these cards will retail for a lot less money than the GeForce 8800 GT.Check out some of the results below:

AMD,NVIDIA Releases New Drivers

AMD and NVIDIA this week released new graphics drivers for its graphics cards. AMD’s latest ATI Catalyst Software Suite 7.9 introduces the usual new features, performance improvements and resolved issues. New to the ATI Catalyst 7.9 drivers is a color temperature control panel. The color temperature control lets users adjust chromatic levels on ATI Radeon X1000 and HD 2000 series graphics cards.

AMD also introduces the Avivo Video Converter application to Windows Vista 64-bit users. The Avivo Video Converter application allows users to transcode various video formats such as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, WMV, H.264/AVC and others.

The latest driver set improves performance in various games such as Far Cry, Call of Duty 2, Half-Life 2, Serious Sam 2 and Quake 4. Performance enhancements are seen mostly on AMD’s ATI Radeon HD 2000 series graphics cards, though X1600/1650 Pro and X1300/X1550 products receive anti-aliasing improvements in Quake 4.

NVIDIA users are also treated to a new beta driver release. The latest beta, version 163.67, improves compatibility with Bioshock and Crysis under Windows Vista and XP.

AMD users can grab the latest ATI Catalyst 7.9 from the website for Windows XP, XP-64, Vista and Vista-64. NVIDIA users can grab the beta ForceWare drivers for Windows XP, XP-64, Vista and Vista-64.
