The 500 Ghz Processor, Worlds Fastest Processor

Researchers from IBM and Georgia Institute of Technology designed and built a computer processor that broke the world speed record reaching an astonishing 500GHz speed, more than one hundred times faster than the fastest commonly available computer chip.

The chips were made from silicon-germanium (SiGe). Gallium is used to better performance and lower power consumption.

The processor made by IBM and GIT run at a whopping speed of 350Ghz in room temprature as compaerd to the commercially availible processors which range froom 1Ghz to 3.8Ghz. Lowering the temprature to -450 degrees Farenheit made the chip touch the speed of 500Ghz which translates into 1/2 trillion calculations per second.breaking the world reord for the Fastest chip ever made.

SiGe chips, the scientists theorized, could eventually hit 1 terahertz, or 1 trillion cycles a second.

what is it's size/dimension/power requirement/cost/use/
some example of its speed..compared to a normal intel quad <=3Ghz ,
Is it vista compatible????
and why are latest intel,s processors only 3GHz at top..??

How big is this thing becuase if its small enough to fit in a desktop i want one!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

how much?????????
that is the god processor

Lol, I don't know what the exact size and dimensions are, and i have no idea what the power consumption is. BUT, it is a dang super computer, not one you could fit in a desktop computer, probably over 20x the size. Also, i'm pretty sure this is no longer the worlds fastest processor.. And the fastest processore you could get that is commercialy available, is the "Intel® Core™ i7 processor".

Looking at the only via size reference in the picture and assuming just the core block (the block that has a grid of 5x7 smaller blocks on it), it seems to be only x1.1 to x1.8 times larger then your average run of the mill processor.

However there is more to a processor then just its clock speed, but it would still be interesting to see a silicon-germanium (SiGe) processor for the consumer market, however I have little doubt it would be very expensive.

However if the speeds seen here can be duplicated at even 1-10% while keeping current processor transistor layouts, it would easily be the fastest consumer chip available.

Now only if it could be produced cheaply huh. :)

Its 500Ghz Processor Man!!!! If U Think If Its Small enough To fit in a desktop & U want One Then U have To Sell Few KG OF URANIUM OR ROB A Small COUNTRY TO Buy It

So Dont Ask Stupid Question's!!!

It's A Superb Project For These Two Company's They Achieved Somthing Which is Evolution in Monster SuperComputer

Its Trillian Dollers Key For These Company Why Do They Sell It?

They Can Sell This Technology To Org.Like NASA which can pay anything to get super brain for their research or anything....

This is crazy!!!!!!!!
Just compare your computer cpu with this you will go mad. imagine how fast is it.

f'in noobs!

So many stupid posts -- no way in hell is it compatible with anything that's not custom-made, and probably costs several large fortunes to get your hands on. Several hundred times more powerful than consumer CPUs...

You feel like getting the fastest consumer CPU that you can, shell out 5K on a good dual-cpu-mbo and Intel Xeon X5680... Or, with a few hundred thousand more, you can fund research into 500GHz processors...

Noobs!, I clocked my celeron to 600 last week!

Yaar... it is not a monster.. it is god cpu.. and i cant think how fast it will work.. it will change the generation of computer..

Anonymous said...

Hmmm, I wonder if you overclock it?

Anonymous said...

what would you guys do with a 500 GHZ processor if you had it(pretending) none of you here would even make the cpu useage go up to five percent, that cpu could run a worldwide server

Anonymous said...

I would use about 95% because I am working out how it is possible world of warcraft is geeky!!!

Just so you all know, this is not a commercially available processor in any way. You may have heard that your operating system is 64 or 32 bit, this is not an 86 bit archetecture therfore it is completely irrelevent as to price, compatibility and so on. The main problem with these type of processors although I can't say this one specifically is that they aren't always binary meaning it is isn't always 1 and 0 , sometimes it is things like 0.3. Therefore nothing has been programmed for, it wouldn't fit any motherboard and so on.

shut up, it is not for sale noobs

I was wondering if you ever considered changing the layout of your blog?

Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more
in the way of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 images.

Maybe you could space it out better?

every problem has a solution if you can afforde this prossesore you have no shoteg of funds and can pay for a solution to run x86 programs on it as well as a custome motherboard and just becuas buy a program to dedicate half of as a video card and put hollywood out of businuss just becuas you have that much money. also buy all the worlds supley of nuclear materials go to mars and become imortal. you know when you have more money then every other person on earth combined.
