XFX nForce 780i SLI Motherboard Released

XFX released a motherboard based on NVIDIA's new nForce 780i SLI chipset.

The first platform created specifically for a three-way SLI gaming experience, the XFX nForce 780i SLI motherboard offers unmatched performance and an unparalleled DirectX gaming experience. The only Intel solution that supports true PCI Express 2.0, this motherboard is superior for 3-way and SLI as well as multi-monitor configurations.



Designed for next-generation technologies, the XFX nForce 780i SLI motherboard fully utilizes the new NV Monitor features, that includes full overclocking for Intel Yorkfield and Wolfdale CPUs. Nvidia Officially Launches 780i SLI

NVIDIA has officially released the nForce 780i chipset today, this chip offers support for Intel's Yorkfield processors and features three PCI Express 2.0 slot for Tri-SLI.

Just in time for the big guy's annual holiday sleigh ride, NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the world leader in visual computing technologies, today introduced the Company's next-generation NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI media and communications processor (MCP), designed specifically for 1333FSB Intel QX9650 (Yorkfield) processors. Nvidia's G100 To Roll In March

According to current plans, Nvidia plans to introduce its Geforce 9 series high end part codenamed G100 around march 2008.

We don’t know many details, but we do know that the chip should end up faster than two G92 D8E dual PCB card which is scheduled for launch in late January.

It will be on time to launch with G96 which is a mainstream part.

AMD Slashes Phenom Prices

AMD is cutting Phenom prices in an effort to make it more competitive against Intel's quad core CPUs. The cheapest Phenom 9500 clocked at 2.2GHz now sells for €181, down 10 percent from last week's €199 euro. Thanks to the price cut, the new Phenom is now the cheapest quad core on the market, as Intel's Q6600 retails at around €200.

The 9600 price is unchanged, it's still selling for just over €220 and we're expecting a price cut sometime this week. The 9600 Black Edition is coming too, and we'll probably know the exact prices for both 9600 CPUs later today.

This might be the start of limited price war, although you shouldn't expect anything spectacular. Quad core CPUs dropping under €200 is good news for all consumers.

ATI R680 Pics Leaked

Here are some leak pics of R680. There are only three main chips on board, 2*RV670XT and one PLX chip for two GPU commmuications.

All 16 memory chips (8 on the front and 8 on the back) are missing on the board. Source said the card is using 0.7ns GDDR4 memory.

Also we can notice two digital PWN power modules.

Intel G45 1.7x Faster Than Intel G35

In Q2 2008, Intel will launch another new integrated chipset call G45. G45 targets a 3.0X the 3D performance of the Intel® G33 Express Chipset and 1.7X the 3D performance of the Intel® G35 Express chipset.

It will offer a broader DX9 game compatibility & DX10 support at launch. It will also plays HD-DVD and Blu-ray discs at full bit-rate with no additional hardware. The Integrated digital and analog display options maximize design flexibility and reduce BOM costs.

Intel To Make WiFi/WiMAX/DVB-H Chip

Intel is developing a new chip that can handle WiFi, WiMAX and DVB-H digital TV.

This kind of chip would allow equipment to access the WiFi network in the home, automatically handover to a WiMAX network when you leave the house and also access digital TV on the move, all through one chip.“There is a shift from people wanting their content any time, anywhere to any device, any network, and the problem is there are too many radios,” said Jeff Hoffman, system architect for the wireless communications lab.

The chip tapes out next week and uses nine processing elements in different combinations to handle the three protocols. The processing elements are linked by a network on chip for the data and a control bus using the open OCP bus protocol with an ARC 605 configurable processor as the system controller. This has been extended with a 32 x 32 fast multiplier to handle the network access, and provides 303DMIPS of performance at 233MHz with just 17mW of peak power.

The test chip measures 24mm2 overall and consumes 79mW in receive mode at 52Mbit/s and 72mW in transmit, and links to three RF chips for the different networks.
