CES 2008:After NVIDIA G100,Possibly GT200 Is The Next Gen Card

The first time we heard about a product from Nvidia called G100 was almost a year ago. This should be one of the codenames for the next generation Nvidia card, but it might not be the only one.

D8E is Geforce 9800GX2, and that is already a done deal, but after that comes a new high-end card. We know that this product is expected in the middle of this year and that Nvidia is working on it. The new codename is GT200 and we know that Dan Vivoli likes GT stuff, so we wouldn't be surprised that he came up with the name.

We can also tell you that this is one big chip, but no real surprises there.

ATI's R700 or NVIDIA's G100, Who Will Win The Battle ?

R680, or two RV670 on the same PCB, should come out in late January, while the real next generation high end is scheduled for Q2 2008.

There aren't any delays, at least not that we know of and this new chip is a big hope of ATI. The company has been trying to dethrone Nvidia for years and it hopes that R700 can be the next R300. This might happen, but Nvidia managed to be one step ahead of ATI for years.

ATI managed to get back in the game in 2007, where it took back significant market share from Nvidia, mainly due to better prices, but it needs faster high end products to compete Nvidia even better.

Nvidia would be in real trouble if R700 managed to beat G100 but usually Nvidia knows what it's doing.

GeForce 9800 GTX Speculated

VR Zone has some speculations about the specifications of NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce 9800 GTX (G100) graphics card:

- Codenamed G100
- 65nm process
- 256 shader processors
- 780MHz core clock
- 3200MHz memory clock
- 512-bit memory width
- 2048MB (256X8) GDDR5 chips
- GDDR5 @ 0.25-0.5ns
- Dual DVI-out
- Supports DX 10.1, VP3
- 15-25% lower TDP than 8800GTS

This is just a speculation and to know its real existence in the roadmap of NVIDIA we have to wait and look.

G100 To be Named Geforce 9800

Nvidia’s new G100 chip might get the Geforce 9800 name. We know its way to early for the final decision but still we got it from good sources that are supposed to know these things so much in advance.

It will be rather interesting in Q1 and Q2 as both ATI and Nvidia are supposed to launch two new high end parts each. In Q1 probably in January Nvidia is about to launch D8E, dual G92 card and ATI will reply with already demonstrated R680 card and later probably in Q2 ATI will follow up with R700 to fight G100.

Nvidia's G100 To Roll In March

According to current plans, Nvidia plans to introduce its Geforce 9 series high end part codenamed G100 around march 2008.

We don’t know many details, but we do know that the chip should end up faster than two G92 D8E dual PCB card which is scheduled for launch in late January.

It will be on time to launch with G96 which is a mainstream part.
