Nvidia Officially Launches 780i SLI

NVIDIA has officially released the nForce 780i chipset today, this chip offers support for Intel's Yorkfield processors and features three PCI Express 2.0 slot for Tri-SLI.

Just in time for the big guy's annual holiday sleigh ride, NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the world leader in visual computing technologies, today introduced the Company's next-generation NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI media and communications processor (MCP), designed specifically for 1333FSB Intel QX9650 (Yorkfield) processors. The new nForce 780i SLI MCP brings a multitude of new functionality to Intel platforms, including support for the new Enthusiast System Architecture specification and PCI Express Gen 2.0. It is also the first motherboard solution to support the Company's new 3-way SLI technology, the industry's preeminent multi-GPU platform solution based on NVIDIA GeForce graphics processing units.

AMD's 45nm In 2008 To Compete With Intel

If you watch Smallville you know what 33.3 is, and if you don't, then K10.5 is the new codename for AMD's K10 manufactured at 45 nanometer.

Anyway, the primary goal that AMD has for 2008 is to switch to 45 nanometers as soon as possible. The new K10.5 will produce a faster cache latency, as well as improved imc, and these were exactly the weak points of the K10.

Both the B2 and B3 revision of the K10 would benefit a lot from a faster cache latency and an improved imc. AMD hopes to give the Yorkfield processors a run for their money with this improved core.

Let’s hope to see K10.5 around Computex, at the latest.

Intel To Launch 45nm Dual Core In January

Intel is planning to launch Penryn generation in both dual core Wolfdale and quad core Yorkfield editions on the 20th of January.

The lowest priced dual core will sell for US$169, while the most expensive one, which will be clocked over 3GHz, will sell for only US$268.

The prices of these products have increased since the last roadmap, but obviously Intel realized that AMD is simply not there with the parts to compete.

Intel 45nm Yorkfield Runs On 975X Motherboard

Hot Hardware gotten more than a few inquiries from readers, since they launched our Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (aka Yorkfield) article, about whether or not the new 45nm quad-core chip from Intel will play nice in legacy motherboards. The party line from Intel is that while technically, Yorkfield quad-core processors are not supported by chipsets like the 975X and P965, some motherboard manufacturers may choose to validate and support the product.

They've recently been able to prove out that on at least one 975X board, the Asus P5W64WS Pro, using one of Intel's new 45nm Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processors. More than likely any 45nm quad-core Intel processor as well is a go.

Cheapest Yorkfield Based Quad Core To Sell For $319

In January Intel plans to introduce a few more new Yorkfield based quad cores and the cheapest of them, powered with 12MB of cache memory will cost $319. It is branded as Core 2 Quad Q9450 processor and it works at 4x2.66GHz and supports FSB 1333MHz.

Naturally, this CPU uses LGA775 and it will work in all the motherboards that can cope with 45nanometre Penryn based processors.

The current sweet spot is the Q6600 quad core that works at 2.4GHz and sells for $270 in USA and between €220 and €230 in Euroland. This baby has 8MB of total cash memory while the new one has SSE4 and more cache.

The new Q9450 comes out in January.

Intel QX9650 Reviewed Up To 4.3GHz

Few days back Intel's first 45nm penryn-based Yorkfield CPU was reviewed by many sites,but today Fudzilla tested its real extremism in terms of its overclocking feature.For the first time Intel QX9650 is being reviewed up to 4.3Ghz with only air cooling.

For the testing purpose the following CPU were considered.The comparison is being made between the new 45nm Yorkfield quad-core with the old Kentsfield quad core.

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 Intel's First 45nm CPU

Intel’s quad-core desktop Penryn CPU Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (Yorkfield) has been available to a couple hardware sites and their reviews got published today.

The Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 is the first 45nm desktop processor that Intel will be launching in a couple of weeks.

Highlights of the new Intel QX9650 CPU include better performance, lower power consumption, new high-k metal gate transistors, additional cache and SSE4 instructions set support.

Overall the new 45nm Intel CPU gets a very positive review. If it will be worthwhile to upgrade to the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 is now depending on its price. Intel is expected to reveal the price in about 2 weeks.
