ASUS Unveils Two New Variants of 8800 GS Card

Asus has announced two versions of the 8800GS, one that works at what we think should be the reference clock for 8800GS and the other is going to be a TOP edition version, of course factory overclocked.


The first one, branded EN8800 GS/HDTP/348M, works at 550MHz for the GPU and 1.6GHz for 384MB of GDDR3 memory. This card's shader clock is 1375MHz. The second one, which is far more interesting, works at 600MHz for the core and 1.8GHz for 384MB of GDDR3 memory. Its shader clock is 1700MHz which is way higher than 1375MHz on the non-overclocked version. Both of these cards use a 192-bit memory interface.

NVIDIA 8800 GS : A Strong Contender Against ATI's 3850 Series

Expreview has got their hands on a production 8800 GS card which by any means looks to be a stripped down G80-series GPU although it's branded as the G92-150 and it's manufactured at 65nm. It has a 192-bit memory interface, 12 ROPs and 96 Stream processors compared to a 256-bit memory interface 16 ROPs and 112 Stream processors for the 8800 GT.

The 384MB card on test is clocked at 575MHz for the core, 1,438MHz for the Shaders and 1,700MHz for the memory. This is somewhat slower than the 8800 GT that it was put up against which was clocked at stock speeds. However, the 768MB versions of these cards should be clocked faster than the 8800 GT, but features the same amount of Stream processors and ROPs.



On average the 8800 GS 384MB was 20-30 percent slower than the 8800 GT 512MB card it was put up against, but if it'll be priced right, it looks as if AMD's 3850 series just got a fierce contender, especially as Expreview is quoting prices of US$165 for the 384MB version and US$204 for the 768MB version.

Geforce 8800 GS Spotted With Specifications

Expreview has spotted GeForce 8800 GS graphics cards. The site says NVIDIA will soon introduce 384MB and 768MB GDDR3 GeForce 8800 GS graphics cards, these cards are based on the G92-150 core and feature 112 stream processors and a 192-bit memory bus.

The 384MB version has a 575MHz core, 1700MHz memory and 1438MHz shaders. The 768MB version has a 650MHz core, 1900MHz memory and 1625MHz shaders. For comparison: the GeForce 8800 GT has a 600MHz core, 1800MHz memory and 1500MHz shaders but has the advantage of a 256-bit memory bus.

First Review of G92 Core 8800GS

According to NVIDIA, G92 core 8800GS just aims to the OEM market. But it is said that the AICs have their own plans. GeForce 8800GS 384MB will be $149-179 and it will replace GeForce 8600GTS. GeForce 8800GS built in 6 groups and 96 Streaming Processors in total, each group has 8 Texture Filtering Unit and 8 Texture Addressing Unit, the stepping reduced to 12 from 16. It matched 192bit memory controller and 384MB memory, so its HDR and FSAA will not as good as GeForce 8800GT.

Below is the 3DMark05, 06 test. The platform was not so good and the GPU-Z seems cannot display its correct clocks for now. Just for reference.
