CES 2008:Sony Officially Announces Skype On PSP

As we have guessed that Skype would be available on Sony PSP and now it's time for its official announcement.Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. today announced that it would introduce Skype(TM) features to the new slim and light PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)Portable) handheld entertainment system
(PSP-2000 series).

After the update, a Skype icon will be available under the Network menu, allowing users to create a new account or login with their existing one. Otherwise, it's Skype as usual, free calls between Skype users, SkypeOut to make calls to regular old phones or SkypeIn to receive calls on your PSP.

DivX Playback For Play Station 3

As promised, Sony has released new firmware updates for Playstation Portable and Playstation 3.

The Playstation 3 firmware gets updated to version 2.10 and finally brings DivX and VC-1 (WMV) video playback support. In addition to video playback Sony has added a voice changer feature if you like to have some fun during voice/video chat.

The Playstation Portable firmware has gone up to 3.80 version bringing Internet radio support. You can find additional info on Internet radio at Sony US blog. The new firmware versions are available at Sony's official web site.

Sony Releasing PSP Firmware Update Supporting Streaming Audio

Sony will release firmware version 3.80 for their PlayStation Portable on December 18th.

This update will feature the following improvements:

• Streaming Internet Radio player
• Video scene search
• RSS now supports
• OPML and pictures
• PSP-2000 owners with 1Seg tuners can use an EPG to schedule Japanese mobile television recordings
• PlayStation Spot now available at BB Mobile Point (Japan only)

Sony Launches 40GB PS3 Officially In India

Atindriya Bose, country manager, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCEI), unveiled today in Mumbai the Playstation 3 (40 GB) for the first time in the Indian market, at a grand expo "Playstation Experience - Entertainment like never before".

Along with PS3 40GB (Priced Rs 24,990), Bose also unveiled Slim and Lite PSP (Playstation Portable) with Video Out facility. SCEI also rolled out an assortment of games including the PSP Spiderman specialty pack at Rs 10,490 with Spiderman games and movies; the Simpsons specialty pack at Rs 9,990 with a new Simpsons game and three new games for PS3. Three more games for PSP are on the anvil.

Talking about the event and the new products, Bose said, "According to the industry reports, gaming is becoming increasingly accepted form of entertainment amongst Indian consumers and society. We perceive this as an ideal time to expose Indian youth to the complete spread of entertainment that is possible with Playstation, the phenomenon that has taken the world by storm. "Playstation Experience - Entertainment like never before" aims to capture the attention of the Indian youth who is modern and gives value to quality entertainment solutions."

At the event, a new game named 'Singstar Bollywood' was also introduced today, which is played at Singstar Center Stage.

PlayStation 3 Firmware Hits Version 2.0

New PS3 software adds themes, news feed, progressive video downloading, custom playlists, web filters, PSP Remote Start and more


Just shy of its one year launch anniversary, the PlayStation 3’s system firmware has jumped a full version number. New features in version 2.0 include remote play, unlimited playlists, more Xross Media Bar customization and more.

Those with PSPs can make use of the improvements to the Remote Play linkage between the handheld and the PS3. With the latest firmware for both systems, PSP users have the ability to turn their PS3 on and off from a Wi-Fi connection, adding the opportunity to listen to the music, look at the photos and watch the videos saved on the PS3 hard drive from anywhere in the world.

Version 2.0 also improves upon the PS3’s functions as a media player. The new firmware allows users to create custom playlists for its music and photos – a feature that will be handy for those using the PS3 as a slideshow creator or digital music player.
