With the Radeon HD 3800 series almost in the bag (as in released), Advanced Micro Devices has unveiled a new RV670 card, this time a Stream Processor nicknamed FireStream 9170. According to AMD, the FireStream 9170 will be the world’s first Stream GPU with double-precision floating point technology.
This second generation Stream Processor is built with 55 nm process technology (all the RV670s please stand up) and consumes less than 150 watts of power – delivering an exceptional performance per watt. The FireStream 9170 features 2GB of GDDR3 memory onboard and will cost no less than $1999.
The Feisty FireStream 9170 and its supporting SDK are set to arrive in Q1 2008.
