GeForce 9800 GX2 Unveiled

NVIDIA's yet-to-be released GeForce 9800 GX2 in the "flesh." .HardOCP has the first exclusive pictures of the upcoming GeForce 9800 GX2 and some specs of it.

The best way to think of the GeForce 9800 GX2 card is as an 8800 GPU that has been die shrunk to 65nm and placed in an SLI configuration in a "single" card. The 9800 GX2 is very reminiscent of 7950 GX2 of days past.

The GeForce 9800 GX2 will launch in late February or early March as it now stands and will replace the 8800 Ultra (single GPU) card in NVIDIA's high-end product line up. The 9800 GX2 is said to be at least 30% faster than a 8800 Ultra. While it is not clear from the pictures below,it is speculated to support the "Quad SLI."

According to HardOCP the 9800 GX2 is using a pair of 65nm G92 GPU's, the same that you can find in the new 8800 GT/GTX. The card has 1GB of memory and a total of 256 Stream processors which indicates that this is a dual G92 based 8800 GTX.

Expect Nvidia Geforce 9800 GX2 By Feb 19,2008

Expreview claims NVIDIA is going to release the GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics card on February 19, 2008.

We can not learn much of the card, Only knows it will be a dual GPU card and communicate with built-in SLI. It also have a SLI connector so it will become the another card supporting Quad SLI like its predecessor 7950 GX2. The power module of the card is somehow different, it have one 6pin and one 8pin power connector.

G100 To be Named Geforce 9800

Nvidia’s new G100 chip might get the Geforce 9800 name. We know its way to early for the final decision but still we got it from good sources that are supposed to know these things so much in advance.

It will be rather interesting in Q1 and Q2 as both ATI and Nvidia are supposed to launch two new high end parts each. In Q1 probably in January Nvidia is about to launch D8E, dual G92 card and ATI will reply with already demonstrated R680 card and later probably in Q2 ATI will follow up with R700 to fight G100.
