Dual Core Celeron Series To Launch In January

Intel will release its first desktop dual-core Celeron series, E1000, on January 20, according to sources at motherboard makers.

The first dual-core Celeron processor, the E1200, will have core frequency of 1.6GHz, 800MHz FSB and 512KB L2 cache with a price of US$53 in thousand-unit quantities.

On the same day, Intel will also launch three quad-core (Yorkfield) CPUs, the Q9300, Q9450 and Q9550 and another four dual-core (Wolfdale) CPUs, the E8190, E8200, E8400 and E8500 for desktops, the motherboard makers added.

Intel also plans to introduce a 45nm product for its Core 2 Due E4000 series featuring 1066MHz FSB, 3MB L2 cache and a 65W TDP, however the model number is not yet finalized.

Intel To Launch 45nm Dual Core In January

Intel is planning to launch Penryn generation in both dual core Wolfdale and quad core Yorkfield editions on the 20th of January.

The lowest priced dual core will sell for US$169, while the most expensive one, which will be clocked over 3GHz, will sell for only US$268.

The prices of these products have increased since the last roadmap, but obviously Intel realized that AMD is simply not there with the parts to compete.

Intel Adds One More 45nm CPU To E8000 Family

Intel will add one more 45nm desktop processor to its E8000 family in January 2008, according to sources at motherboard makers,DigiTimes reports.

In addition to the E8200, E8400 and E8500 processors of the E8000 family, Intel plans to launch the E8190. The CPU will have a frequency of 2.66GHz, L2 cache of 6MB, and FSB of 1333MHz. It will be priced at US$163 in 1000-unit quantities.

Although E8190's specification is similar to that of the E8200, the CPU does not support virtualization or Trust Execution Technology, and will only focus on the OEM market where it will be slightly cheaper when purchased in large volumes, added the sources.

Intel is also planning to launch the Core 2 Duo E5000 family to replace the previous E4000 family in the entry-level market. The first product from the E5000 family will launch in April next year priced at US$133 in 1000-unit quantities. Specifications are still unknown.

Wolfdale 45nm 3.16GHz Is C2D E8500

While E6850, the 3.0GHz Conroe, is dropping to €235 as Intel prepares for 45 nm refreshed dual core parts, the Wolfdale dual core 45 nanometer 3.16 GHz CPU will be branded as Core 2 Duo E8500, and this will be the fastest dual core at launch.


It works with FSB 1333 and it will cost US$270 at launch. Currently, Core 2 Duo E6850 at 3GHz currently costs $270 in the US, so obviously Intel will try to get rid of these parts before the new dual core king E8500 joins the game.


The 3GHz E8400 45 nanometer part will drop to US$190, and this will happen in January when Intel expects to launch these parts. Conroes days are certainly numbered.

Intel To Phase Out Single-Core CPUs

Intel plans to phase out the single core desktop processors in the first quater of 2008 and they will soon be replaced by dual-core Celeron E1000 series.

The first dual-core Celeron processor, the E1200 will have core frequency of 1.6GHz, 800MHz FSB and 512KB L2 cache with price of US$53 in thousand-unit quantities. Although Intel will enter 45nm process production this November, entry-level processors such as those in the E1000 series will still be fabbed at 65nm using a Conroe-based core, noted the sources.

Many PC makers have started to clear out old, single-core processor inventory in order to avoid overstock problems, the sources added.

Intel will also launch two E4000 series processors based on its 45nm process in the first quarter. The E4700 will have a frequency of 2.6GHz, 800MHz FSB and 2MB L2 cache. The CPU will launch with a price of US$133 in thousand-unit quantities. The model number for the second CPU has not yet been set, but the sources detailed that it will support a 1066MHz FSB and have 3MB L2 cache.
