Orkut has officially launched themes for Orkut addicts. These themes are not yet live on majority of Orkut profiles.So some have to wait for some time to have those themes right on their Orkut Homepage.



If you are interested in changing themes in yours Orkut profiles then Orkut follow the below guidelines !!

• First of all Login to yours Orkut profiles after that >> Click on Edit Profiles >> Click On Themes Tab as seen in below Image


• Select Themes of yours choice ,at present only 4 Themes are active . So you can only use 4 Themes in available 12 Themes.

Note:These features is not yet activated in all profiles.Hopefully they will be within a weak or so.

Microsoft Offers To Buy Yahoo !

Microsoft has made a formal offer for Yahoo, the software giant wants to buy the search engine for $44.6 billion.Microsoft is bidding $31 per share for Yahoo, which is 62% more than Yahoo's closing stock price Thursday at $19.18.

Commenting on the proposal, Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer of Microsoft said, "We have great respect for Yahoo!, and together we can offer an increasingly exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers and advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in the online services market."

Yahoo! can offer a competitive choice while better fulfilling the needs of customers and partners. The combination will create a more efficient company and will generate at least $1 billion in annual synergy for the combined entity.

Microsoft has developed a plan and process that will include the employees of both companies to focus on the integration of the combined business.

"We believe our combination will deliver superior value to our respective shareholders and better choice and innovation to our customers and industry partners," Ballmer said.

The company plans to offer significant retention packages to Yahoo! engineers, key leaders and employees across all disciplines.

Google Going For iPhone Killer With Dell

There are rumours that Google is planning to launch a mobile phone in partnership with Dell.

Marketing Week, quoting senior industry sources, claims the two companies will reveal their plans at next month’s 3GSM telecoms conference in Barcelona. Google insiders deny an announcement is that close.

There had had been talk of Google launching a “Gphone”, to go up against Apple’s iPhone, but it was not clear how this would come about. Dell has also been planning a move into mobile phones for some time and already makes PDAs so the rumour makes sense.

Worms Hits Google's Orkut

Google's Orkut social networking site hasn't enjoyed the popularity that others, such as MySpace and Facebook, have in the U.S. That being said, the site is quite popular in other countries, chiefly India and Brazil. The networking site was targeted by what appears to be a non-malicious hacker yesterday and the effect was quite astounding.

The worm used Orkut's scrapbook system to spread its message to hundreds of thousands of users in just a few hours. First an Orkut user would receive an e-mail that a new scrapbook entry had been sent to them. Upon viewing the new entry, the user would see the message “2008 vem ai... que ele comece mto bem para vc.” The message is Portuguese and reads as “2008 is coming... I wish that it begins quite well for you” in English. Not exactly what you'd expect from a super virulent worm virus.

The worm uses a feature of the scrapbook system that allows the use of JavaScript content in entries. After the message is viewed by the user, it deletes itself and adds the user to a user group named Infectados pelo Virus do Orkut, or Infected by the Orkut Virus. The code also sends a primer message to all of the infected user's contacts, and the cycle repeats itself. The virus at one point was spreading at 100 users per minute, and managed to infect over 600,000 accounts.

Trojan Attacks Adsense Code

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Advertisements placed by Google in Web pages are being hijacked by so-called trojan software that replaces the intended text with ads from a different provider, Romanian antivirus company BitDefender says.

The trojan redirects queries meant to be sent to Google servers to a rogue server, which displays ads from a third party instead of ads from Google, BitDefender said in a statement.

Google said on Wednesday: "We have cancelled customer accounts that display ads redirecting users to malicious sites or that advertise a product violating our software principles."

"We actively work to detect and remove sites that serve malware in both our ad network and in our search results. We have manual and automated processes in place to detect and enforce these policies."

The trojan, named after the mythic Trojan Horse because of its ability to enter computer systems undetected, attacks Google's AdSense service, which targets advertisements to match Web page content.

"This is a serious situation that damages users and Webmasters alike," said BitDefender virus analyst Attila Balazs.

"Users are affected because the advertisements and/or the linked sites may contain malicious code," he said. "Webmasters are affected because the trojan takes away viewers and thus a possible money source from their Websites."

BitDefender on its Web site (www.bitdefender.com) describes the trojan, which it identifies as Trojan.Qhost.WU, as spreading at a "low" level and causing "medium" damage.

Google Knol -Wikipedia Like Service

Yesterday Google announced that they are working on a new online publishing tool called Knol.

Google quoted :

Earlier this week, we started inviting a selected group of people to try a new, free tool that we are calling "knol", which stands for a unit of knowledge. Our goal is to encourage people who know a particular subject to write an authoritative article about it. The tool is still in development and this is just the first phase of testing. For now, using it is by invitation only. But we wanted to share with everyone the basic premises and goals behind this project.


Knols will include strong community tools. People will be able to submit comments, questions, edits, additional content, and so on. Anyone will be able to rate a knol or write a review of it. Knols will also include references and links to additional information. At the discretion of the author, a knol may include ads. If an author chooses to include ads, Google will provide the author with substantial revenue share from the proceeds of those ads.

And its sure that Google is making a way to compete with Wikipedia and to dominate the market of internet knowledge.

Microsoft Office Live Beta Out

Microsoft has rolled out its beta of Office Live Workspace, its Web-based office productivity software designed to hit Google.

Office Live Workspace allows users to work with Word, PowerPoint, Excel or PDF files directly from Office applications remotely and collaboratively. It is part of Redmond's "software-plus-services" strategy, in which applications are Web-enabled and available on demand.

So far user reports complain that the platform is a bit slow, but is getting there. The University of Pennsylvania, the University of Washington and Vanderbilt University are included in the early-adopter programme.

After Gmail The Next May Be Gdrive

Google Inc. wants to offer consumers a new way to store their files on its hard drives, in a strategy that could accelerate a shift to Web-based computing and intensify the Internet company's competition with Microsoft Corp.

Google is preparing a service that would let users store on its computers essentially all of the files they might keep on their personal-computer hard drives -- such as word-processing documents, digital music, video clips and images, say people familiar with the matter. The service could let users access their files via the Internet from different computers and mobile devices when they sign on with a password, and share them online with friends. It could be released as early as a few months from now, one of the people said.

The Mountain View, California company plans to provide some free storage, with additional storage allotments available for a fee, say the people familiar with the matter. Planned pricing isn't known.

Microsoft vs Google ?? gOS vs Windows ??

Microsoft's rivalry with Google heated up considerably this past year when rumors surfaced that Google might release its own operating system to compete with Windows. Has Google finally jumped into the fray with its own OS?

Unfortunately, no; gOS is not a "Google OS" nor is it affiliated with Google (though Desktop Linux has reported that Google has seen gOS and approved inclusion of the Google toolbar with the operating system).

gOS is developed by Good OS LLC out of Los Angeles. It's based on Ubuntu Linux 7.10 and runs the Enlightenment E17 interface instead of KDE or Gnome. Despite not being created by Google, the focus of gOS is Google's online applications such as GMail, Google News, Google Maps, Google Calendar, YouTube, etc. It's a neat concept for a Linux distribution, but how practical is it?

Google To Unveil 'Android' Phone Software

Cnet is reporting that as part of Monday's big press conference, Google will unveil their iPhone killer gPhone OS, tentatively codenamed Android. Sources are calling the OS a "a complete mobile-phone software stack" that will be followed shortly after by a SDK (Translation: this isn't just an ad system and will have more than a bunch of lame web apps).

As we mentioned before, CNET affirms that the OS should be open-source and Linux based, but we shouldn't expect to see it in stores soon. The number of companies involved (over 30) will make it difficult to move quickly on this. I'm just glad that this thing is moving out from the shadowy depths of rumorville.

Google Intros Gmail 2.0

It might be a good idea to scrutinize your Gmail account more closely than usual these days. Not only is Google in the process of rolling out IMAP support, but it looks like some users are able to access a new version of Gmail. If you notice a new option that says "older version" or "newer version" at the upper right-hand corner, you're probably in. It should be right between the "settings" and "help" tabs.

Google Blogoscoped has a series of sreenshots showing some of the differences. Gmail 2.0 reportedly loads faster, although it's a bit early to say how much faster. And there's a much more detailed contacts section. There's a new contacts manager and the option to add images for contacts directly from Picasa Web. There also appears to be an option to "filter messages like these" from the Gmail "More Actions" drop down box.

Google Docs Launches on Cellphones

iPhone, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile users can go to Google Docs and view all the docs, spreadsheets and presentations (iPhone-only, right image) directly on your phone. No editing for now, but Google's working on it. When they get editing working, this may beat even Mobile Office for ease-of-use and convenience (as long as you're not looking at documents that are too complicated).
