TG Daily reports AMD quad-core have been fixed and also that AMD's 45nm CPU to roll out in the second half of this year.
AMD chief executive officer Hector Ruiz today told analysts that the company has fixed a bug that severely impacted the launch of the company’s Opteron and Phenom quad-core processors. According to Ruiz, the bug has been fixed and the fixed B3 stepping CPU “has left the fab”.
Production volume of Barcelona and Phenom quad-core will be about double of the “nearly 400,000 units” that were manufactured during Q4, CFO Bob Rivet noted. On the server side, AMD will focus to get “mid-band power, high volume” quad-core Opterons into the market with higher speeds, 2.5 GHz and above, being scheduled for a Q2 introduction. As previously reported, the higher speed Phenoms will also have to wait: AMD will roll out triple-core Phenoms and 65-watt (low power) quad-core CPUs during Q1. “Higher speeds will follow in Q2”, Meyer stated.
There also was some positive news on the company’s 45 nm progress. Ruiz said that AMD that 45 nm Opterons have been produced and he is “pleased” with the initial result. However, he said that the company is targeting a H2 ramp of the 45 nm generation, which indicates that AMD will miss the originally promised mid-2008 launch of the processors. This statement also contradicts Meyer’s statement from the Q3 2007 earnings call that AMD would begin ramping 45 nm CPUs in H1 2008.

AMD Confirms Shanghai Quad And Montreal Octal Core
Fudzilla claims that AMD have a new series of Quad Core and also Octal Cores in their line up.
Back in April fudzilla mentioned that Shanghai and Montreal are the K10 successor codenames. Yesterday at analyst day in New York, Mario Rivas has confirmed the existence of these two.
Shanghai is the next quad core that comes to save Barcelona's K10 bottom. This is an improved K10 design that AMD insiders also call K10.5, and this new chipset will have 512KB L2 cache per core. It is a native quad core design, but it will have 6MB L3 cache. Barcelona / Agena K10 has only 2MB.
The new 45nm chipset will use RDDR2 memory, 3x Hypertransport 1, will have IPC enhancements and support for AMD-V. According to AMD's current plan, it expects to ship these chips in 2H 2008.
Montreal is the next generation chip and it will come with octal or quad core design. It will have 1MB L2 memory per core, 6 to 12MB L3. It supports DDR3 memory, 4X Hypertransport 3 and AMD-V. As far as we know, Octal core design will be based on two quad cores stitched together.
AMD plans to have this in the first half of 2008; again, later than Intel, as by this time Intel should have Nehalem quad and even octal cores out.

Quad-Core Phenom Models & Clocks Revealed

AMD has confirmed the model name and clock speed of the upcoming quad-core Phenom processors and plans to launch them as scheduled in Nov/Dec while Phenom FX will launched in Q1 next year. AMD plans to add higher clocked Phenom FX and Phenom quad-core processors in Q2 next year.
Phenom FX-82 will be clocked at 2.6GHz or higher while the faster FX-8x model could hit 3GHz. FX-82 DVT samples will be available in Q4 while production will kick off in Q1 2008 while FX-8x DVT sample and production is slated for Q2 2008.
Phenom 9600 and 9500 clocked at 2.4GHz and 2.2GHz respectively will be the first quad-core Phenom processors to hit the market in Nov. Phenom 9700 clocked at 2.6GHz will come along slightly later in Dec. A faster iteration of the quad-core Phenom will come along in Q2 2008 while DVT samples will be available in Q1. Most likely, it will be called Phenom 9800 and clocked at 2.8GHz.

Prices For AMD Barcelona
AMD sent out pricing information for its upcoming quad-core Opteron 2300 and 8300 series processors to its partners and distributors. The company plans to launch nine new quad-core processors later this month with clock speeds ranging from 1.7 GHz to 2.0 GHz.
AMD’s two-way capable quad-core Opteron 2300 series launch with five new models – 2350, 2347, 2347 HE, 2346 HE and 2344 HE. Pricing for the two-way capable models start at around $206 and go up as high as $372. Quad-core Opteron 2300 HE models command an approximate $60 premium over standard models, clock for clock.
On the multi-way side of things, AMD has four quad-core Opteron 8300 models ready for launch – the 8350, 8347, 8347 HE and 8346 HE. The multi-way models have a $688 cost-of-entry and top out at around $1,000. Unlike the Opteron 2300 series, the 8300 series HE models command an approximate $110 price premium.

AMD To Launch Barcelona In Seven Places
AMD will launch its next-generation Opteron processor next week in a series of events co-located around the globe.
There is no doubt AMD will want to keep the confidence of financial analysts, press and general customers with some demonstrations of high-clocked Barcelona/Agena FX systems - probably spotting B2 revisions, not B1 or B0 as it is rumoured on some sites.
The launch will take place in San Francisco and Barcelona for the western world, while AMD APAC will coordinate launch events in Beijing, Bangalore, Seoul, Taipei and Tokyo - raising the number of events to seven.
Sparks will be flying in October and November when AMD will go head to head against the 45nm Yorkfield processors, but by that time the B3 speedbin should be out the door, showing off the workstation Opterons, Phenom FX and X4 processors to their full potential.
